We acquired Sybella in June of 2017, our first senior doe added to the herd. Sybella exhibits strong dairyness and body capacity with a nice top line. The most noticeable attribute of Sybella is the confidence in her walk and respect she commands from the rest of the herd. She is without a doubt the “alpha doe” in the DeLuna Acres herd.

Sybella participated in our 2018 LA Appraisal test and scored high across the board, save her mammary which she did much better than expected. All of her scores related to appearance were very high and allowing her to register an E in General Appearance. Scores related to her top line were also consistently high. A future doeling out of Sybella will be a no brainer to keep for our herd.

2019 Updates

The big news is that Sybella FINALLY gave us a doeling !!! After 11 bucklings, we finally were blessed with a girl, she is stunning and staying right here. We were beginning to think we’d never see a girl out of her but she finally surprised us. Our new addition is appropriately named DeLuna La Miracle.

Sybella is now 5 years old and looking incredible as ever, even in the mammary department !! We have worked hard to develop her overall appearance and really hoped to improve her final score during LA testing. She did not disappoint us with a final recorded score of EX 91 EEEE.

02.26.2024

Today we said goodbye to our old girl Sybella, passing away from internal bleeding caused by her recent kidding on Monday. Sybella would have turned 10 in May and was slated for retirement.. Maybe the kids she blessed us with was her parting gift to the farm. We plan to retain one of the doe kids to carry on her legacy along with Penella, Sybella’s retained kid from 2022.
Sybella came to our farm in the summer of 2017 as a spritely 3 year old. She quickly established herself as the herd queen and never relinquished that role. Whenever there was apparent danger in the area, Sybella would run the pastures rounding up the other does, herding them back to the barn for safety. We often wondered if she was crossed with a herding dog ? Every doe in the herd knew their place with Sybella and never challenged it. Sybella always played the mother hen to the younger doe kids as they were merged in with the rest of the older does and relentlessly protected them as if they were her own. It’s really hard to find a goat that exemplifies all the strong qualities she showed. Filling the void created by her departure will be difficult.
Rest well pretty girl. The hurt and sadness of your departure will diminish with time but you will never be forgotten.
