Quatorze joined our herd in the fall of 2017 from Barnowl Lamanchas after a successful breeding to *B Little Orchard L Joplin.
Quatorze is as close to perfection as a breeder could wish for save for one, her size. Here is an excerpt on Quatorze directly from the breeder:
Born in the heart of winter, this little girl brought a spring-time life to our little farm, and to say the least, she was spoiled accordingly. While we would like to see Quatorze a little bit larger for her age, we are impressed with her overall style. Knowing how well Yoda mixed with Travis to create SGCH Alder*Rose Anduin, we were thrilled but not surprised to see how well this doe freshened in summer 2016. Her mammary attachments are absolutely stunning, her rear udder width and height are awesome, and her lateral attachments are snug as that proverbial bug in a rug. She is a smaller doe and we would like to see more substance of bone, depth of body, and strength of rear pasterns, but she is elegant, capacious, dairy, and an absolute sweet heart. She is undoubtedly a slow maturer, but we have to keep reminding ourselves that she is only two years old, and for now, with that stunning mammary, she either gets to stay here or go to a performance home where she can reach her full potential. This is definitely not a doe we are trying to move for the sake of moving, but if the right home comes along we can be persuaded to let her shine elsewhere.
Quatorze third freshened in April 2018 with two nice bucklings that have been placed as future herd sires in Montana and South Dakota. She continues to be small in stature and given her age, it will likely not change dramatically. In our most recent June 2018 LA appraisal, Quatorze improved in General Appearance and Dairy Strength over her previous year’s score.
2019 Updates
We are quite surprised to see how much Quatorze has grown in stature and body capacity this year, possibly a tribute to our herd management? Quatorze was bred to Argus this year for an all Barnowl breeding, producing 2 doelings and 1 buckling. Like last year, her buckling was taken shortly after birth by an Eastern ID breeder looking to add some new genetics to their herd. We plan to retain one of her doelings but still haven’t made the decision which one to keep. Quatorze continues to be a solid milker and is on our current year DHIR testing program and performing well. We expect solid improvements in her LA Appraisal scores this year.

It’s with a very heavy heart, we announce the passing of our beautiful girl, Quatorze. Quatorze came to us in the Fall of 2017 from Barnowl Farms as a soon to be 3 year old. She wasted no time establishing herself as second in command, only deferring to Sybella as the herd leader. Quatorze exhibited an energy unlike anything we’d ever seen and we grew to expect her lined up first in line at milking time or staring us down from afar, dare we be late. A late bloomer, Quatorze developed into a stunning, full bodied doe waiting to make this her break out year. Just this year at the Spokane show, she won her class three times and went Reserve Grand Champion. Maybe it was her gift to us before moving on, we’ll never know. We are very fortunate to still have Quatorze’s 2 doe kids from this season in our herd and at least one will stay here to carry on her legacy. Rest in peace pretty girl, we miss you dearly.
